Dance Wedding Music
Once your wedding ceremony is over, you’re probably ready to celebrate! Months of planning and organization, the overwhelming emotions of the day, and your excitement at starting the next stage of your life all contribute to a sense of happiness and relief once you share your first kiss as a married couple. And when you get to your reception, one of the best ways to celebrate your special day is to dance!
The music you choose for your wedding is an important part of your reception. You want dance wedding music people will enjoy, that they’ll want to dance to, and that will add to the atmosphere of your wedding reception. So how do you make sure your dance wedding music is the kind that your friends and family will remember?
Know Your Guests
The first thing is to think about who will be at your reception. The types of people that will be there will have an effect on what kind of music you play. If you have a lot of young adults, for example, it would be a good idea to play current, popular music. On the other hand, if your guests are a little older in age, the current music might not be the best selection for your dance wedding music. If your guests vary in age from young to old, it’s a good idea to have a good mix of music that range in tastes to appeal to all your guests.
Know Your Theme
If you have a specific theme to your wedding, such as a medieval theme, that can help you determine your dance wedding music. Choosing music that compliments the theme of your wedding will just add to that theme, and keep the atmosphere of your day just where you want it.
Know Your Musician(s)
Whether you’re using a DJ or a live band will also help determine your dance wedding music. A live band, for example, may limit your choices to a specific genre or style, while a DJ will be able to play anything that can be put on a compact disc. When you decide your musician(s), have a talk about the kind of music they’re used to providing in comparison to what you’d like to have played. The earlier you talk about this, the easier it will be to make sure everyone is happy when it comes to the day of your reception.
Make a List
No matter who’s providing the music at your reception, you should make two lists that include song titles (and artists). One should be your “must play” list, which includes songs like your first dance, the wedding party dance, and any other songs that must be played at your reception. The other should be your “do not play” list. As much as everyone loves receptions, there are probably songs that, if you hear them, make you want to faint. Those go on your “do not play” list. Checklists, Song Ideas and Templates can be found in The Wedding Reception Kit.
Remember the Most Important Guests!
No matter what kind of music you choose, it’s important to remember that this is your wedding reception, and you need to be happy with your choices. If anyone should be dancing at your wedding reception, it should be you, so make sure the dance wedding music you choose is music that makes you want to celebrate!
All the best with your Wedding Plans and making the most out of your special day,
